Why we need

Parosmia is an invisible distorted smell disorder

that impacts a person's entire life

Parosmia Awareness is needed for:

  • health - parosmia can lead to many other health issues if the person can't eat a balanced diet

  • safety - because, as part of this strange condition, we can't smell a natural gas leak, spoiled/rotten food, or something burning

  • professional knowledge - to provide the medical community with information and resources to help their  patients and not just dismiss their patients without a follow-up & recovery plan

  • research - to help scientists/researchers better understand how & why parosmia happens and to develop diagnostic tools and treatments for a successful recovery

  • public education - to help the general public understand that parosmia is a real medical condition

  • acknowledgement - to recognize parosmia as an invisible disability. It is the loss of a sense which is just as important as our other senses

  • new product development - to promote the creation of new food, personal care products and home cleaning products that could help make living with parosmia more tolerable

  • environmental adjustments - work, school, restaurants, shopping, other people's houses... are difficult places for people with parosmia to visit
