A major problem with parosmia is that most food doesn't taste and smell like they used to.
Below are some examples of food that smell and taste bad to me:
Most meat...
Beef (hamburgers, roast beef, steak) The best description I have is "beef smells and tastes floral, like old, bad perfume. If it's grilled, that awful smell is in the air." I remember how good grilled steak used to smell. Now it's just so disgusting. Same with hamburgers. I've noticed this smell at expensive steak restaurants, fast food restaurants and backyard grilling.
Poultry (chicken and turkey). Sorry Thanksgiving, maybe next year I can enjoy turkey again. Pork Bacon smells awful. It's not the same bad smell as beef but it's still just as foul. From cooking it to eating it. It's just terrible. But ham is acceptable. Why ham?
Peanut butter & peanuts. Peanut butter and jelly was my go-to sandwich. Almonds and pecans are acceptable. Again, why?
Eggs prepared any way or added to anything else.
Any fried food (French fries, onion rings...) including food cooked in an air fryer.
Fried snacks (potato chips, tortilla chips...)
Certain soda pop taste like chemicals and others are tolerable. I'm not naming any brands at the moment but I have found a difference. It's so strange.
Anything Citrus
This includes foods like orange juice, lemon juice, lime and any cleaning products that should smell like something citrus. Lemony fresh?... ewe... no thank you.
COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE!!!
Coffee is the #1 complaint from anyone suffering from parosmia. Imagine not being able to drink your morning coffee.
Chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate...
Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Christmas and everything in between... No more chocolate. Think about that. No more chocolate.
Anything minty (gum, candy and toothpaste). Mint toothpaste? Really?? There aren't many alternative toothpaste flavor choices and whatever flavors are available do not offer sensitivity protection or whitening or anything else. Who would ever think that toothpaste flavor would be a big deal?
How am I supposed to live healthy when I can't stand the smell and taste of most food?
Dear manufactures, We, the people of the world with parosmia, need more flavor choices for our favorite products and every day food choices.
